We will build our business around a small cadre of sophisticated, institutional investors who understand this asset class and recognize the benefits a patient, long-term approach to timberland investing can bring.
We find that such clients are more likely to understand the value RMS brings to a timberland investment and better appreciate the entrepreneurial spirit of an employee-owned and -managed company.
Our investments are structured so that clients participate on a side-by-side basis in all acquisition opportunities. This is achieved through our strategy to only offer commingled fund products and to supplement them with deal-specific offerings that enable opportunistic investors to participate along with our fund clients in large transactions. This strategy simplifies our business operations, removes the conflicts inherent in investment queuing and property parcelization and gives us the ability to focus our time and energy on creating value for our investors.
Lacking pressures from an external parent company, our growth is dictated by the availability of acquisitions that meet our clients' investment objectives and our ability to grow without compromising the quality of our services. We don't believe we should always be either raising or placing an investment fund. Nor do we feel each successive fund should be larger than its predecessor.
We strive for thorough communication with our investors and seek the highest degree of transparency in all of our business practices. Our formal quarterly and annual reports include detailed presentations of current and expected business conditions that accompany the standard financial statements. In addition to an annual client meeting, we visit each of our clients in their place of business every year. Finally, all our clients have direct access to the principals of RMS - those senior professionals that are active in and responsible for managing timberland investments.
